We meditate, practice being mindful, and explore what the horses have to teach us. Sharing insights and experiences afterward is optional. After the meditation, we mingle with the horses and take photos.
No previous horse or meditation experience is required.

Active Hope and The Work That Reconnects workshop based on Joanna Macyʻs work, Honolulu August 6 and 7, 2016. Presented with Anne Symens-Bucher. Letter from Joel B. Tan, Executive Director
Aloha ‘ohana,
Please accept our deepest gratitude for your love and encouragement as we navigate the lava flow in Lower Puna. In this time of introspection, grief and anticipation, we humbly surrender to Tūtū Pele’s might and give profound thanks for the abundance we have shared in Puna Kai.
Since Tūtū Pele began her dance in early May, several staff and volunteers remained in place to sustain business operations and local community services, while working toward our reopening. Unfortunately, as of June 1, 2018, we are unable to inform you of Kalanihonua’s reopen date, given the lava flow shows no sign of abating.
Additionally, the Kalanihonua Board of Directors have recommended that all staff shall be laid off as of June 2, 2018. This includes all staff who have remained on campus to mālama our grounds and facilities, as well as leadership and including my position as Executive Director.
I have been awestruck, since I came on as ED, by the love and dedication I have witnessed of everyone who plays a part at Kalanihonua. As this chapter ends and another unfolds, I am bolstered by the good work we have done together, and know that we all remain passionate and committed to contributing to the recovery and success of Kalanihonua and Hawaii Island.
Effective, Sunday, June 3, care of Kalanihonua’s next evolution rests with our Board of Directors. Please share questions, suggestions or concerns via BOD@Kalani.com.
With love and aloha, JBT
